It is state park. Not national. Worth going. Beautiful.
Fort Clinch is a state park with water on 3 sides for the most part you have Egans Creek on one side St. Mary's inlet behind the fort and the Atlantic Ocean on the east side a very beautiful place on Amelia Island FL
There's ocean beach on one side and inland water/river on the other side of the park. You can only access or see one water body at a time.
The park is not a traditional Florida beach by any means. It is a national park with the fort and camping and many hiking trails. However, the park is surrounded by water and beaches. These beaches are pristine with no other economic development so be sure to understand there are no real facilitites at the beach areas. They are natural. I hope this helps.
We always go swimming at the first access to the swimming beach. There used to be a pier to the left and if u felt like walking far enough to the right... U could walk all the way to the public beach of Fernandina. They have torn down the pier, but my family and I still prefer to go swimming at Ft. Clinch. The water is always beautiful, plenty of waves and not overly populated like some beaches are. We went last weekend and actually seen baby pink colored stingrays and the water was blue and crystal clear. If you go to the fort you can see the water on all of the sides. Also, great for camping... Either on the beach side or at the river side.
Yes, there is water surrounding most of the park. You'd probably only swim in the northeast/east side if the park.
Fort Clinch is a historical armory that is surrounded by the beach. But there are warnings not to swim due to riptides and currents
Beach access as well as river access
It's on a peninsula, there is water on three sides, accessible from one, if you want to walk around the horn after exiting the fort.
