So they keep the passport you are trying to renew? Mine has a visa in it and I need to renew my passport before it expires but I dnt want them to keep my old passport

They don't keep the pass port they just take it photocopy it stamp it discontinued and give it back to you same time.

You don't have to give them your old one.. give your name and birth certificate!
