Is the USS Growler part of this? Can anyone recommend some must sees for people with limited time? Thanks

Yes it is part of the musues. See the submarine because it does not take too much time, and has a human experience to it. I would suggest the Intrepid aircraft itself because it combines most of what you would be interested in. Choose carefully which parts of the Aircraft you go to if you have limited time --- the navigator when you enter the Aircraft will help you prioritize. Also, prebook your tickets online if you want to save time in the queue. Also choose weekdays, and low holiday times.

Yes it is. It took me an hour to visit the submarine and top of the deck including the space shuttle

Yes the Growler submarine is there. I had a short time and my favourite parts were the submarine, concord, space shuttle, walking through the captain's bridge area and finally the aircraft hanger. You can walk around it all in 2 hours so long as you don't stop to read everything.
