Is travel still safe with all this nonsense going on? My fiance and I have plans for the end of October but im very unsure of our safety.

Not sure what you're referring to but Old City is very safe, especially if you act appropriately (don't leave valuables in sight, lock car, pay attention to surroundings and traffic) as with any other area. It's a well trafficked area with a lot of people, police, lighting etc
