I had 2 cats that have been sent to this shelter today. I saw one of the posts about the Humane Center for a husky, and that it was a "no kill center". Does that mean that yours is? I want to be sure they're safe!

We are a municipal shelter for the City of Charlotte. We must take in every animal that walks in our door no matter how full or empty we may be at that time. This means that we cannot guarantee that your pet will make it to adoption but we do everything in our power to get them to adoption if they are safe and healthy. Even pets with medical issues can make it to adoption if we can treat them. We also call upon our partner rescues before we consider euthanasia on anything that comes in.

Yes they do put them down if not adopted.

Municipal shelters are open admission and must take any animals in.

Humane society is not a "no kill" shelter... they send them elsewhere for euthanasia if needed. CMACC and Humane Society and ASPCA are all partners and currently do everything possible to place animals in good homes.

Yes they do put animals down!

CMACC is one of the better shelters about finding homes for animals. However, owner surrendered pets can be immediately euthanized when no space is available. I would suggest a rescue in your area be contacted to take the pets to prevent this. The Humane Society is a No Kill Shelter, but not CMACC

They do euthanize animals there when necessary.
