Talk to a local vet about what shots are needed for your pets. The rabies vaccination is required by law. We offer rabies vaccinations on the 2nd Saturday of each month. The hours have changed slightly so learn more here: https://charlottenc.gov/AnimalsCMPD/PetServices/Pages/RabiesVaccination.aspx The Humane Society of Charlotte also offers low-cost shots and other services on Wednesdays. Food, water, and shelter are required by law as well. To know what kind of food to give, consult a veterinarian.
Finding a local veterinarian to take your dog to will help you answer a lot of questions that you have. Including what types of shots they may need or what food to get...
That seems like a fairly open ended question. But generally, for a new dog, assuming it's healthy and under 7 years, you should find a dog food plentiful in vitamins, a heartworm preventative (many also include flea and tick treatments), and good quality treats. I use Purina One salmon foods, Sentinel heartworm and flea, and a mixture of milkbones and various Purina treats. Also, on occasion, despite my wife's opinions, I'll make bacon and eggs for the dogs on an occasional Sunday for brunch. Despite any of this, all your dog truly needs is a meal, some water, and your love. You'll figure out the rest later. Just make it feel at home.
