Rock Center head gardener Erik Pauze first spotted the tree five years ago, he told the Wall Street Journal, and when he came to see it this spring, he said, "Yup, this is the year to take the tree... It's looking perfect." Today, November 8, the 75-year-old evergreen will leave Figueroa and Gutierrez's home and hit the road for New York City.
The head gardener selects the tree and he discovers trees through the submissions, tips, but also his own rides - sometimes years before the tree is ready.
