If the patient doesn't want family to visit, that is their right and there is nothing that you can do it. The hospital does not initiate the restriction unless they feel that a visit would be detrimental to the patient's care and recovery.
The only time the hospital restricts visitation is when the family asks or we are in the middle of something requiring patient privacy. I will tell the patients family to go to the visiting room during the bath for instance. Spouses, caregivers, parents, children- they can stay in the room if they want to help. But not to boss me around 😉.
