You have to call the 800 number to set up appointment for your local office. Once the appointment is set up, they will call you to file for benefits on the day and time of appointment...you don't have to go to the office.

While they dont make appointments by phone the local office phone number is given out publicly on the website
You have to go in, and sign in at the kiosk. Local offices don't give out their numbers, and they don't allow you to set up appointments with them. The only time someone has an appointment, is when it is set up by Social Security (e.g.: in a letter they send to your house). You have to go to your local office.
