It's about 5 minutes but go slower. Plenty to see along the way!
There will be a fee to get onto Assateague but it is for the preservation of the Island and well worth it. Day or week pass. Bring bug spray it is getting warmer and the bugs will be big. Few good restrants, newest one is passed Don's restaurant tucked in by a hote on the right.
From our driveway, the beach is 4 miles by car, which is as close as you can get. Assateague Island is a Wildlife Refuge, and you have to go through the Refuge to get to the beach. Just turn right from the hotel onto Maddox/Beach Rd, and continue across the bridge and through the Refuge until you hit the ocean! You might see ponies along the way, too. It's also a lovely bike ride around the wildlife loop to a more secluded beach further up north-- and it's actually only 3 miles away instead of 4! If you're really feeling adventurous, you can bike an extra mile up the service road to D-dike, where you'll likely have the beach to yourself.
It's a 5 ride, a very nice ride no traffic. There is no place closer.
Its about 5 mins on car and about 20 minutes depending on traffic
Closest of 2 hotels to the beach. Its 4-5min by auto and 15-20min by bicycle through some nice paved trails.
The main beach on Assateague is a little over 5 minutes by car, assuming you don't get stuck behind people who stop to take pictures and just block the road. This place is about as close as you can stay to the main beach on Assateague. If you're on foot you may find it quicker to go through the Wildlife Loop and get onto the beach a little further up. You can't drive right to the beach that way though.
Me and the wife took bikes there and it was a bit of a ride but it's also the closest place to the beach.
about a 5 min drive
