No. Lots of security and off duty police work in the atea.
During events like taste of Charlotte the area is full of security folks. There is a small (but noticeable) homeless presence but they tend to be non aggressive. The main shopping complex is directly across the street so extra security there. Overall a pretty safe area immediately around the Ritz. We didn't feel unsafe while staying there. The hotel is great, too.

Bank of America, Wells Fargo office buildings are in area and it is safe. The situation can change a mile or two from here, but so long as you do not veer off too far.
Nope, it is almost in the center of town so therebare always police around.
No. There is also a large uniformed police presence in the area... Lots of people... Very safe.
