They have a self checkout, actually six of them set up by the starbucks. :)
i believe there is a law about self checkouts in oregon or portland, store is required so much square footage or sales or something. im sure safeway would love to save money on labor
I don't normally shop at the Portland Safeway. I live in Tillamook and shop at that store location. Since most of the stores are set up so that you can find anything you need, no matter which location you are in I would hazard a guess that the corporate office feels that a florist shop is important to their sales. When they see the numbers/ sales go down, then they might consider dedicating less space to the florist shop and more for self checkouts.
Well, Steve, I have lived within walking distance for 8 years and am in there 5 to 6 times every week. I haven't had a problem navigating the store. I know the answer Regarding the floral area. It is rented space, just like Starbucks. Safeway has rules they adhere to, but they do business any other florist does.
Back when Safeway was a real grocery store it wasn't much different... very congested and slow.
Safeway = lines. I think it's part of their mission statement.
Sounds like a question for coorprate
