Unfortunately, there are alligators in every river and large lakes in Florida. This particular river boasts large masses of people and kids daily, therefore, they prefer to be in the more secluded area of the river.

Yes, an alligator ate me.

Stormy Dragon | Sep 20, 2018

They have not had a gator spotted since the 70s the water is to cold for them they like warmer water.

Nora Hutchison | Sep 20, 2018

Alligators and mocassins are in every area of Florida. They have no interest in us as long as you don't feed them or mess with their nests etc. The wildlife that is still left is one of the best parts of coming to rural Florida.

The water us a cool 72 degrees year round. This is not a temp the gators like. Occasionally one will come into the river but they don't stay. If there is one above 6 feet we notify fwc and if they can locate it they would trap and relocate it. I have worked there for the last 2 summers as only 1 report of one being seen. We were not able to confirm if there really was one or not.

Been there 20x and never seen one

Bradley Buchanan | Sep 20, 2018

Yes, but but you are not likely to encounter one if you are dropped off at Midpoint or Dampier's landing. We went last weekend for the full "Summer Adventure" run which starts at the north entrance and runs for about 3.5 hours. There were few people at this drop off point and we floated within 8 feet of a huge gator that was resting on shore. We did not pass by any other tubers (few kayakers) until we reached the midpoint landing, where the river transformed from remote swamp/wetland with lots of wildlife (including gators) to being practically a public pool.

Yes there are Gators. I have been several times and have heard them most times but only saw one once. Most, not all, Florida waterways run the risk of alligator if its fresh water. They wont be q problem though, i wouldn't be worried

Danny Dulgar (D. Lee) | Sep 20, 2018

Of course! It's Florida but you'll rarely see one

Florida's wildlife is every where that's the beauty of it just be aware and be responsible. I have not seen any there its is very busy in the summer I have seen a few at other springs Juniper and Alexander. They have alot less traffic at those locations

Yes, but they wont want to be in the main part where it's full of people. There are warnings however and you should keep your eyes open.

Been there once, didn't see any. That, of course, doesn't mean there are none. Warning signs are posted near the water at all entry points.
