Go to a shelter (but be careful!!), after the process and after they put you to a proper shelter, not an assessment shelter, apply in a NYCHA office, and let them know you're homeless, give them your info. This process however takes a long time to get to a NYCHA apartment, like @Vayamon Norris, I too placed and application with them and still my status is pending for a review. Sorry for your status as well.
I put in a housing application in 2015 and I never been seen asked about the application and I was checked on it several times over the years I was told in January 2018 at my application would be due for review and nothing has come to pass up to this point is there anyway I can be contacted and be seen because I'm in need of a house place to stay.
IF YOU HAVE an addiction of any kind....BIG if....seek a residential program!! Don't come here..Unless you must..
