Are there any places around Clearwater that are family friendly aside from parks and the beach? Something that isn't too terribly expensive?

Largo Central Park is wonderful for families!!!!

Sunken gardens and the kids discovery museum next door are reasonable especially with the groupon deals they run all the time. There are lots of parks with playgrounds, and the aquarium in tampa has half off admission if ypu habe a zoo pass for certain zoos. Also the manatee viewing area is good and free but more of a cold weather thing, thats when lots of manatees are in the area.
