There are a number of different ferries that run from the nearby Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks. They are all tourist boats, with different prices and extras. Most pull up ro the islans, extend a walkway, and leave 30 minutes later. They run back and forth all day.
Tim, there's not a state-run ferry that goes out to the island. But as others have stated there are plenty of fairies out of the Tarpon Spring sponge Dock that take different tours and head out to the key as well as a local sandbar.
The ferries are large pontoon boats. Bar service on board. Recommend the sunset cruise. Take your camera.
