Rocky Mountain National Park is always worth going too see, The snow only adds to its BEAUTY
We were there April 16 - 18, 2018. Gem Lake, Sprague Lake, Lilly Lake, had no snow on the trails and were basically dry. Alberta Falls trail was mostly snow covered, and Bear Lake trail was completely snow covered. The snow adds a different look to the park. We drove to the end of Hwy 34 in the Park. There was a walkway that afforded beautiful views. I think you can find several other dry trails this time if year.
There are things to do year round, but if you don't have winter mountaineering experience, I'd go in June or later. Trail Ridge Road is a marvelous drive, and even more so, the unpaved Fall River Road, but with a summit over 12,000 feet, it's a summer drive. These road typically don't open until June and close in October.
It is definitely worth it. I was there a month ago. Only higher elevation was closed. Being from Alabama I had never seen anything like the Rockies.
Thanks alot for all your awesome responses, even you Allen
Trailridge road will not be open for at least 6 weeks. But very little sniw elsewhere. Bears have been sighted in early evening. Moose, elk and deer are about. Scenery is pretty right now.
We go up at different times during the year. The winter has fewer visitors. No matter what time of year, the beauty of the park is worth the trip. In the winter you can find trails to snowshoe and if you are quiet, you will find critters bountiful. The summer is my favorite time but you also have more people. No matter when you go, just enjoy!
We went on both. Sides of the entrance Granby and Estes and really the only thing that is closed is the road that ties them together, everything else we had access. It was awesome.
It was gorgeous in March. You can't cross from the east side to the west side because the high roads are blocked with snow, but it is totally worth spending a day driving and hiking the valleys. Views are amazing! We saw lots of deer, and the elk should be rutting soon if not already.
