In the state of Massachusetts as of right now, (you'll have to look it up on the state website for where or just call the dispensary for info) you need a "medical Marijuana license" in order to purchase medicinal Marijuana from dispensaries. You can call a local dispensary and ask for local doctors that can examine you and certify your need for a license. I only know Leominster as the closest (in reference to Boston) as the only city that is dispensing WITHOUT a license aka recreational sales.
Ok, they wanted me to go to their doctor ($200) and then pay $75 for the state tax. Then I get the card. Now I'm from FL, and Boston had a recreational use law. Just be an adult and go. While I was there, it was back on medical use. Good luck!
Medicare is federal. Marijuana is still illegal at federal level. The medical card is state level. You locate a doctor in your region of choice, who might be your md but more often us not. A quick online search can find doctors who will review you mefical marijuana. You go for a review with the doctor who verifies why you are applying, and they can help file paperwork. The visit and filing fee together were about $300 for me a few years ago. Recreational does not require the card but is limited for location and products. Medical presumes a condition like cancer, migraine, anxiety or chronic pain.
