Given they grow above 10,000 feet in the southern Sierras, they are more susceptible to climate change, rainfall, and fire. There is at least 1 tree that is 5000 years old. Try doing an internet search about them. Should be plenty of information.
Their range is limited to just below the timberline. As the Earth warms they will slowly move higher up the mountains. They not prone to beetles. They do best on the sunny slopes where it is warm and dry
