If coming from 280/92.. exit Ralston...make a left..then a right on Hallmark dr...then make a left on the first street... that's another entrance.

I understand your frustration -- Google directions won't get you to a trail head. Follow Mike Zelle's directions. First left after you turn into Hallmark from Ralston gets you to the most convenient entrance to a trail to water dog.
The (lower) entrance to the park is down the hill just before Lyall Way intersects with Lake Rd. You will find a simple park gate with a gap for pedestrians to pass through. And the upper entrance is all the way up at Hallmark Dr and Lake Rd (the other Lake Rd!), More than a mile towards the ocean...
There is a nice trailhead at Lake Road. I believe you can also start at Ralston Middle School.
