I used a photo on my phone and my CA drivers license.
Keep a copy in your photos. Also use the California vaccination site which will give you a QR code accepted everywhere

Yes we used our cards..I have clear plastic sleeves we keep ours in and I put my daughters i.d in the sleeve on the other side..made it easy to show
