If you are asking specifically about the Lyft Hertz Express program, it is a week to week program. Every 28 days you must return the car for inspection. If the car does not maintenance you may keep it for another 28 days or swap it for another.
They are working on changing the inspection dates from every 28 days to 56 days. But yes, it's on a week to week basis and you must give a minimum of 20 rides a week to keep the rental.
