The shelter is open 24/7- 365 days a year. You can walk in any time of day. Just be aware that bed assignments are given out begining at 1:00 P.M. From 7:00 A.M. to 1:00 PM they are cleaning the dorms and bathrooms, laundering the linens and blankets, and putting meals together. So if you show up at say, 9:00 A.M, you'll be let in, but you will have to wait till 1:00 PM to get a bed number and sheets and a blanket. You can watch TV in the cafeteria, or in one of the TV rooms, or read a book. There are books but I wouldn't call it a library. Bring your own reading material. I recommend bringing ear plugs so you can sleep. This is what's known as a 'Wet' shelter. That means they let people in regardless of the condition they are in. Lots of dual diagnosis type people. (Psychiatric issues compounded by substance abuse.) They do have medical staff. And it's a few blocks from BMC. You see EMT's all the time. Meals 3 x day, coffee + breakfast 5:00 A.M.
