Good afternoon folks. The entire loop is accessible by car which was breathtaking. Do plan to go on a non-windy day (check on wind forecast) cause them wind can make your visit less than enjoyable. Oh yes, the bottom of the canyon is only accessible via a tour guide or walking down. We walked down to the canyon floor which was easy. Going up was a bit tough but was worth every minute. Have fun y'all
Regardless of age, the Canyon is not accessible by car! You can view the Canyon from the rim road, but not enter in your personal vehicle. However, Navajo guides can take you into the Canyon in a 4 wheel drive. If you want to really experience it, that is the thing to do. Call the Holiday Inn in Chinle and they can help you set up a tour! Well worth it!
Definitely get the guided tour in a 4 wheel drive, you see so much more, and you don't have to get out & walk if you are not able
The walking into the canyon previously mentioned only gets you to the Whitehouse Ruins. If you take the tour at Thunderbird Lodge. They take you on a tour of the canyon floor. They do let you get out and take pictures.
Several areas can be seen by car. You can also pay for an in canyon tour.
Just pretty much the over looks you can visit and you can either hike them as well..
