It's always best to walk with someone. If you're city aware, it is on the safe side. But like all cities' downtown districts with excessive drinking, tourists and transients, be cautious.

Yes it is pretty safe. Lots of lights and people. However I wouldn't walk alone. It isn't safe anywhere.
