Look online to see if there is a local rescue that has foster's. A lot of places can take a cat into their home to avoid the trauma of being in a shelter kennel.
Take the animal to the Bradshaw Animal Shelter or contact a feline rescue organization. If you take it to the shelter you could just State what happened and they'll be okay with you turning the animal over.
