Going into Mexico it is highly recommended to have a passport or passport card.
We haven't had a problem until 2 weekends ago. We drive monthly for braces dental appointment but the driving line back is way beyond ridiculous so we walked. Just with license, ID, birth certificates. They told me that both walking and driving into Mexico requires a passport and, in a nice tone, if I try it again I could be banned for 10 years. I don't know if I would of had the newer California driver's license where drivers take their birth certificates to DMV would have helped.
Yes. But you'd only need one if you are walking across pending the age.
