You're 100% right Alan. Got a robo-dial from a Florida number with what was obviously a tax scam (the ones where they robo-dial tons of trusting people with a lot of back taxes in hopes that NAT Tax Experts can steal from them). Accepting the prompts took me to a call center in Texas, after pretending to be an elderly man with a lot of back taxes I was directed to the Glendale number for National Tax Experts - and a case manager John Gonzalez. John offered to make my back taxes "disappear" if I sent them money. After a bit of back and forth I gathered enough information to file all the reports necessary with the FTC, BBB, and other appropriate authorities. Once I revealed I wasn't a scammable old man John got aggressive - calling me slurs and talking about the presidential election and Biden. Eventually John's boss Bill came on the line, laughed and admitted this was a scam, then blocked my number.
Sometimes it seems that way, but these guys are dealing with the IRS. They are the ones who ultimately control the outcome of your particular case.
