Depending on the direction I have been out with 30 mph
It depends, it takes a lot before its canceled
There is a lot to be considered... Direction of the winds, swells, the vehicles on the ferry and which boat is on the route. There are very few cancellation depends if it across the ferry our or to the be or stern.
It depends what direction the wind is blowing as well as speed. I don't know exact speed cut off. It seems to vary. Good question for the ferry service.
If the wind is northwest they typically go in 30-40. Southwest or easterly it doesn't take nearly as much to cancel.
I've been out on the VH ferry in big winds and heavy seas abaft the beam and just see a wall of water through the portholes - but the tricky bits of the passage are in close protected waters. I wouldn't worry about planning your trip around the weather, unless you are intending to bring an untrailered motorcycle across.
