Yes they usually always have puppies, but sometimes getting a dog that's already a year to two years old is better because they're past the chewing stage. Although, senior dogs are great too and many still act like puppies
Every day things change. It's best if you do some research on breed if you're looking specifically for something; just to make sure you're aware of health issues, training, and temperament expectations. Then go to a few different shelters and see what's there and if there's a 'fit for you. Don't rush the process- you're looking for a commitment that will hopefully last several years into the future!
