I would think his dad would have to apply for him since he is the one on ssi, but I could be wrong. My husband gets ssi and he has if for our son. It's called dependent benefits/auxiliary benefits. You should definitely call and ask them what the process is, I'm not exactly sure what he did, but it was long process. Call the local office it's much faster than the 800 number.
