WA permit, go to the sheriffs office in downtown Vancouver. Walk is fine, no appointment required. No classes required at this time. $57.50, they take your pic and fingerprints, takes about 20-30 minutes tops unless they're busy. Permit will be to you in about 30 days. We can facilitate the private party transfer here, just need both parties here at the same time. For carry outside WA, Oregon requires their permit, they do not honor any other states. You will need a class for that. We offer a multi state class here ion store that covers Oregon, Utah, Fl and AZ. That's provides you with about 37 states of legal concealed carry. Utah is a good one to pick up, covers the most states. If we can help more, please call the shop at 360-977-3808. Thank you for your service. May 8th at 830 AM we host a Patriots Hour, a social time for Vets to meet other vets, coffee, donuts, social time with people who have walked in your shoes. We do that once a month.
Skip Sir, Go down to Clark Co Sheriff and get concealed info. Try to take a handgun safety course And a concealed weapon carry class, you'll need a certification/completion card. I can't remember, I'd call the Sheriff's office and ask if you need an appointment to get your carry license. All kinds of classes are out there, but if you have the money pick a class that "truly" will give you what you need/want out of it. Sportsman's Warehouse offers classes, if I remember. Do you go to Oregon regularly? If so you'll "NEED AN OREGON" permit - period. Those permits are ONLY given certain days/times, make an appointment if necessary. Do you drive to California? They use to except Oregon carry permits. I drove from Vancouver to the El Cajon, California/Mexico boarder and concealed carried the hole way. Do you travel/drive to more than that? Look into your Utah concealed carry, it covers over 30 states. I have my Wa, Or and my Utah & I'm good. I took my Utah class at the Elks on I205
I have my concealed and I am also a disabled veteran. You do not need a class in Washington state to get your CHP. It is recommended, but not required. All you have to do is go down to your local PD and ask for a application. Fill it out, pay the fee, get finger printed and wait. As for the .38 you do need to go to a gun shop (I 100 percent suggest Sporting Systems) have your buddy come with you with the fire arm in question (make sure the firearm is 100 percent cleared and empty) and fill out the transfer and BG check paperwork. The guys at Sporting systems are really helpful and good dudes. Also this is just my .02 cents brother I would suggest a 9mm over a .38. I personally carry Glock pistols. I hope everything works out for you and it's good to see another Disabled Vet exercising their 2A rights. Stay well brother!
I don't think this forum is monitored by the business itself. If you want to talk to them directly, calling them is probably your best bet. They do offer concealed carry classes. But to answer your question, the best way to get used to a new gun is to go to a range and start shooting it. Sporting Systems could probably recommend a good one to you. Of course you could always go down to their store and talk to someone. It's a neat place to check out. Good luck, and thank you for your service.
