I had consulted with three family law attorneys before retaining Elizabeth Christy's office. Elizabeth communicates thoughtfully, clearly and timely. I never had to follow up on a question I had or a matter she was to handle. In my divorce case, the other party, along with her attorney, was fairly difficult in my opinion, often making unsubstantiated claims and misrepresenting facts within the documents they were submitting to us and the court. To make matters harder on us I made a mistake and got a DUI during this time which was often used to characterize me in an unfavorable way. Though, with no judgement or hesitation, Elizabeth continued to draft and submit replies in response to the other parties claims and they were very clear and factual. At one point the court even awarded us $2,500 in attorney fees as a direct result of Elizabeth’s ability to stick to the facts and present them clearly and favorably to our side. Elizabeth’s fees were very transparent and I received monthly statements showing what work was done, how much time was committed to each task and a total amount due. Not once did I feel the need to question her billing practices. Without describing in detail every aspect, in the end our settlement resulted in 50/50 parenting time with my child and the asset allocation was more beneficial to me than I expected. I would not hesitate to retain Elizabeth again in the future.

We first retained Elizabeth for parenting plan modification in 2011 after meeting with several different lawyers in the area. From the start Elizabeth put us at ease with her knowledge and confidence and we felt right away that she was the right person to represent us. She made the court process easy to manage and kept us up to date on any new challenges or questions regarding our case, while also managing costs. Since 2011, we have had to return to court several times and there is no-one else we would go to for our needs. During our most recent court case she navigated us through a rather complex case including child support, post-secondary support, and parenting plan modification. During this time, we were able to work also with her associate Jeremy who did an excellent job working with all the information we gave him and helping to construct a concise and professional statement for the courts. She was always efficient about keeping us informed and responding to our questions and concerns. She was upfront and honest about expectations and did not “over-promise” what we knew would be a difficult case. Despite this, she fought hard for us and in the end we are extremely happy with the result. She will not allow herself to be pushed around or manipulated by opposing counsel, and will not get flustered by their inappropriate comments, accusations or requests. We all know that divorce and custody disputes can be quite emotional and ugly, and it was a relief to have representation that put professionalism as a priority while at the same time ensuring that all of the pertinent information is provided for the court. We have also been able to view Elizabeth represent us in court on several occasions during this case, as well view several other attorneys in the area, and I can say in full confidence that we chose correctly and had the very BEST attorney to represent us. I would not hesitate to refer friends and family to her firm, in fact we already have!

I would highly recommend her (and have to friends and family) as an attorney!!!! She is very fair, I used her in a custody case with my son back in 2012 and I loved working with her. She communicates and keeps you in the loop. She explains the process (in language you understand), what to expect and the outcome. My son was recently adopted by my husband and we had to use a different attorney, that did not communicate with us, did not do things in a timely manner and over all was very frustrating! Something that should have taken a month to two months to complete took five months! Also, was told one fee and ended up being double! It made me appreciate my first experience with Elizabeth! Knowing that not all attorneys are like the one we dealt with. We recently asked her to represent us in a child support case and I am so thankful for her being able to do it. She is human and easy to talk to and explain things to, with no judgement. She truly cares and wants to help! In both cases she made sure that it was affordable and we really appreciate that being a family of five! If we need to use her in the future she is our number one to go to! I also will continue to send people her way if need be!

Elizabeth is absolutely fantastic. I had a difficult child custody case, and I don't believe I could have obtained the results I did without her expert guidance. She is easy to work with, gives honest advice and guidance, and the quality of her work and her results are exceptional. She's also got a great group of people working with her, and every step of the way I felt like I knew what was going on, what I needed to be working on, and what was going to happen next. If your goal is achieving the best possible outcome for you and your family, you could not have anyone better on your side than Elizabeth Christy.

Questions & Answers

What is your experience with a divorce where the husband has signed a quick claim deed on the house and what is the likelihood that this will hold up in a divorce case?

If I receive a cash gift (not inheritance) from a relatives estate, what would be the best way to keep it separate in case of a divorce? Would putting it in an annuity be considered separate in a divorce? Thank you.
