Is it against the rules if our tents use more area than the tent pad? we have two medium tents for my family of 7 and I am not sure if they will completely fit on the tent pad.

There is no designated "tent pad" from what I saw. As long as the tents fit within the confines of your site I would say you're fine.

They can be kind of strict about that. Most of the loops in A and B are limited on tent space already.
