Hi Misty! In short: not exactly. Usually a cough is an indicator that there is something else going on. It definitely depends on the kind of cough your dog(s) has - dry hacking cough or wet productive cough are the two main kinds. I highly recommend a vet visit to make sure there isn't an infection or disease causing the cough. Two common causes of repeated coughing is Kennel Cough (which is sort of like the flu for dogs) and heartworms. Both of those are contagious. There are more serious problems that could cause repeated coughing as well, and that's why I recommend a vet visit. I do not recommend any over-the-counter human medicines to give dogs without veterinary guidance, as some human cough medicines have ingredients that are poisonous to dogs. There are natural remedies out there for dog coughing, but until you know the source of the cough they may be ineffective. One thing I can recommend that is natural: honey. It soothes dry scratchy throats. Hope your pup is ok!
