The trail around to house with access to the public is less than a quarter of a mile.
Wildwood trail is extensive and has many places you can join it. We walked from. Washington Park to Pittock Mansion which was beautiful. Lots of ups and downs and crossing of Burnside (scariest part to me). Depends in what you are looking for, the time you have and your fitness level. I recommend it.
The trail is very long with a lot of alternatives. My wife and I have spent a lot of time on the trail (network) and have never been bored. Get a trail map and plan your summer! Very impressive trail system. Thank God our forefathers saw the importance of wild nature!
If you enjoy seeing parts of Portland that alot of people dont see park your car at the gate when the light goes down and walk up the hill to the Mansion and you get a full view of Portland skyline at night. One of my favorite things to do when I lived in Portland. Bring a light though the road is unlit but once you get to the mansion it is lit. Its maybe a .5 to 3/4 mile walk uphill but totally worth it.
