This is a Whirlpool , bottom freezer. The wire is in the up position and there still is ice forming on the bottom of the freezer, which eventually thaws and leaks on the floor. My son found a connection in the crawl space that went to the house water line that he thought would turn the water off to the ice maker. We guess that did not work because it leaked again.
If you shut off the icemaker it will stop water from flowing to the ice maker. You can shut it off with either an on/off switch, buttons on the front panel, or pushing the wire arm to the up position (depends on your model).
