My dad has a remote that i would like to update to the new model. he is elderly and not able to get around much. I am not on his account and I was wondering if I brought it in if I could exchange it for him.

No you have to be on his account but all your Dad has to do is call and add you as someone who is authorized

That's true. You have to be on your dad's account. They are strict about that. At least they were for me. Long story. They are very helpful at the store.

You would have you Dad call in and add you as an authorized user. Then you would be able to go in and change it.

Yes, long as you have his number or account. They will be able to help you

Unfortunately only those authorized on the account will be able to do anything with the account. My wife tried to change a piece of hardware, and I had to put her as any authorized user. That was the only way.

I'm not sure. I know you have to be on the account to make changes to the plan, but for a simple hardware exchange I don't see them having an issue with it. However if the cable box has to be swapped out to be able to use the new remote then you won't be able to because those a directly connected to the account.
