8am is when it opens.
Probably opens at 730 or 8 am. If it's not a high demand day I would not worry too much about availability. If it is then get early to get in line. You can look at reservations online to get an idea on # sites available.
We've had luck at 6:30 am, because of the lines
At this time of year the Big Meadow campground is a very busy place. You have to get there early and hope that those with the tents are not staying another night.

If there are no-shows from the previous day's reserved sites then there are sites available before the 12pm check-in/check-out time. Visit the ranger office as you drive in and ask. Lewis Mountain is all self serve.
Depends on the weekend. Sometimes mid-week. Always try and make reservations.
