Last I saw on Shenandoah National Park Facebook page was that they were full booked through October with reservations. They have a limited number of non reservable sites that first come first serve in person only, sounds like they usually fill those for the weekend by Thursday evening this time of year but you can follow on Facebook and they put up posts when they run out of space.
You can go online to make a reservation if you want to take a chance and just see if they have something available I would go early but you can't check in until 3 I believe. If want a site with a mountain view I would suggest getting a spot on the E loop.
