I have an older Moto X which suddenly stopped working. If it's just the battery I would want it fixed. How much would it cost to find out and fix if that is the problem

Call the local store and they'll give a better estimate than we would be able to. There's no obligation to have them do the work so you can get an estimate and decide if your phone is worth fixing or replacing.
