Avenue of the Giants is a great drive, good for a quick visit...
My family loves Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. If you pay for the pass, then you can go to Gold Bluffs Beach and see the Pacific then a short drive to Fern Canyon (where scenes from a Jurassic Park movie were shot). Or you can stay on scenic Newton B Drury Pkwy. There are trails as short as 0.1 miles (to see corkscrew tree) or some easy trails that are about a mile. I suggest the short walk to see Big Tree, also 0.1 mile or Cathedral Trees Trail 1.4 miles. There is also an unpaved road near Big Tree that provides a very scenic drive through the park. I believe it is about 2.5 miles but would be relatively slow. Also see www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=415 Look under Brochures and the Park Brochure. Enjoy your trip!
Avenue of giants I believe is what it's called, right off of the 101 around 20 minutes south of Eureka, lots of short trails. Humboldt Redwoods
