Is it more recommended to drive a truck or is a car fine for the safari?

Either one will work. Just a tip we went before noon and was able to get real close to some animals took a second trip after noon and most of the animals stayed in the shade

Either one will do, the designated route is paved and well maintained, no primative trails

In my opinion, cars are better because you are closer to the animals.
