Walls of Jerecho is to much elevation change for a 6 or 4 year old. You risk turning kids off to the outdoors if you push beyond reasonable limits.
It is. Just know that the hike back is uphill and strenuous if you go back to the Alabama trailhead. I understand that if you go back to the Tennessee trailhead, that it's not so strenuous, but longer. I've only been the one way.
Thank you all for your help. We will plan accordingly.
We did it last year and camped at the bottom to break up the hike with 9 and 10 year old. A four year old I would be prepared to carry them back out. A section, was narrow with a rope for a hand hold. Maybe too much for a day hike that young.
Just do it... Thats what is wrong with all our kids......im not no better than anyone......but hey lets just make all them toughening up for a change
I would try out a shorter hike and see how they do first (Monte Sano and Rainbow mountain have shorter easier loops). 6 miles is a long way for a 6 year old even without a steep ascent at the end. I dont want to say it is impossible... There may be 6 or even 4 year olds that can do it. However, i expect the average 6 year old would struggle a lot and a 4 year old would need to be carried most of the way.
