They are correct no reservations needed. Also, just make sure to watch your signs. There are a few areas that are marked for pay parking. If you dont mind a bit of a walk to get to the trail, if you follow the pay road for a bit you will see where the sign says the pay area ends. Its really not that far out.
No reservations required. If you are asking about parking: on the right side (heading toward Cool) of 49 past the bridge is free, but fills up fast. On the West side of the confluence you can self pay, or up in the Quarry road parking area you have to self pay down by the confluence.
