There's two trails, one you walk down a paved path, looks like a road, the other is near the parking area and goes into the woods (no clue where that one goes). The road goes down a bit past a church and a creepy fenced off brick building. The path is up a decently steep hill, but nothing crazy. You'll walk across some train tracks, and keep going up hill. Eventually you get to the falls! You can walk across the train bridge, but it is active. If you're on the tracks when the train comes just stand on the metal cat walk. It'll be really loud so I don't suggest taking children across. But I was up there when a train passed and it was perfectly fine. Just really loud. Obviously be safe! I suggest bringing bug spray as well. I'd say if you take your time probably last about 2-3 hours? Depends on how much you wanna look around. There's not to many places to eat other than fast food, but there's a cattlemans steak house in shepardsville. Maybe 30 minutes away?
Not very difficult at all especially for a family day trip. Fun and has good views. There is a separate paved path branching off of the parking lot that can be explored and has beautiful scenery. Probably could spend 4-5 hours depending on how much you want to do/see
Moderate difficulty. About a 40 minute, brisk walk speed, to waterfall.
