The main beach is not however just to the west of the main beach is a half mile of state land beach that is open. Rising water has taken over much of the open sand area and water last year was up to the over growth. Perhaps this year the ice may have pushed the growth back some but there is open areas for dogs

We took our dogs all ladt summer with no problem. They swam in the water and hiked the trails with us.

Yes, lots of people had their doggies on leash, walking them up and down the beach. Very clean, though watch for zebra mussel shells at the waterline as they can sometimes be sharp.
