I can tell you the beach has some of the best skipping rocks I've seen. I didn't come across any Petoskey stones but still a nice area to search for some cool rocks!

You can only find skipping stones at the State park campground and day use ... The beach by the breakwall in Port Austin has more colorful rocks ( about 5 miles from the park ) .

Hi Patti. Two suggestions. You'll love the rocks that are stacked halfway down to the end of the pier in Port Austin. They're gorgeous, see my review for a glimpse. Also, little known secret...I think it's called Larner Street, it's a short street just down from the pier in Port Austin with bunches of flat rocks. Great for skipping. Enjoy!
