Each boxcar has it's own advantage points. If your a camera shutterbug like myself, I prefer the first seat. Just be sure to switch sides on the way back down so you don't you don't miss any of the amazing views.
I sat on the left side which is the wider of the seats going up I saw all of the north range plus the valley below and if you sit in the front seats you can stand up briefly and you can take better photographs but definitely try to get a window seat
No either side has great views but I feel the front of the car gives the greatest experience and view.

I agree with all comments and try to get in line early so you can get a window seat. There will also be an opportunity to take a look from the front of the train while going up. Definitely bring a coat!
Doesn't really matter, but nice to view both sides, one each trip. Bring a warm coat!
Going up "left-side is better view. Coming down right side is on the outside. (Seats get flipped train does not turn around)
I agree with previous reply, left side going up and right side going down will have better views. But since it's the same view sitting at the 'better' side at least one way would be enough.
