If you want to enter the dwellings, you do have to take a tour. I had my dog with me and could not do the tours and I was still blown away by what you can see on self guided driving tour. I got out quickly at a few places to view the Cliff house and others. Beautiful scenery! I loved it.
Yes!! u have to take a tour to see amy of the ancient ruins.
You do need tours to see the ruins - please do so you will love it each tour is about an hour long. Each tour is $5 bucks each as well. You can do self guided drive tours those are also pretty awesome. I actually liked this national park moreso than Moab. They are pet friendly as long as they are on leash.
Yes if you want to walk through it. There might be some farther away trails that you can hike to see it from a distance though.
The drive is a nailbiter for sure, but WORTH IT. We took a picnic and enjoyed the picnic area.
Yes to actually go INTO the ruins you must purchase a $5 ticket for a reservation time that has a guided tour... I visited the park in September a few years ago & reserved tours for all the accessible "houses" & had no real wait to speak of! I'm not a big guided tour fan usually but I will say I enjoyed these tours immensely --- the ranger guides were VERY knowledgeable & friendly plus you could wander around a little away from the small crowd & get up close & personal to structures checking out anything of particular interest you may have --- I imagine during peak summer travel months its pretty crowded at this park & perhaps not always easy to see everything just as you please... September is a gorgeous month out there & off season already so everything's available easily & almost no waiting! I highly recommend avoiding peak tourist months if you have an aversion to big crowds like I do! Your visit will be far more intimate & rewarding without a zillion other tourists crowding around
There are some that you can do for free. Then for Cliff Palace you can do the 700 year tour or pay $5 a ticket at the visitor center
All but one can be seen from the self guided tour, balcony house. It is truly a neat experiance to go one the tour and be submursed into history--if you can I recommend the tours, otherwise bring binoculars and enjoy!
Definitely recommend the tours. The guides are a wealth of information and have many stories to share.
